NRPP Soil Gas Mitigation Certification is for professionals who deal with vapor intrusion from soil gases, including radon and other subsurface contaminants, in commercial and residential buildings. It covers work that is more complex than a standard residential radon system, typically on larger buildings or on sites with a known contamination history.
This credential suits mitigation professionals who are asked to work on schools, multifamily buildings, offices and light industrial premises, and on brownfield or redevelopment sites where the soil gas of concern is not only radon. It is an addition to the mitigation credentials rather than a replacement for them.
Certification is valid for two years and renews on the same cycle as your other NRPP credentials.
Renewal follows the same two year cycle as the other credentials: eight hours of continuing education, the Mandatory Standards Overview course, your state license where applicable, and the signed ethics and QA/QC declarations. See Continuing Education.
Soil gas mitigation work is carried out to the applicable AARST and ANSI standard for the building type. Where a state environmental agency has its own vapor intrusion guidance, that guidance applies alongside the standard and normally takes precedence on a regulated site.
