Continuing Education

NRPP certifications are valid for two years. To renew, you submit continuing education along with the other renewal requirements through your certification account. Continuing education is what keeps a credential current, so it is worth reading the category rules before you book a course rather than after.

What is required at renewal

Payment is taken at the end, once every requirement on the checklist has been satisfied. There is no need to pay while documents are still outstanding.

What counts

Credits can come from any combination of the approved categories, subject to the limit that applies to each one. The categories cover approved courses, technical papers and presentations, service to the industry, and related professional development [confirm current category list and per category limits].

A course can only be claimed once. If you took the same course in an earlier renewal period and claimed it then, it will not count again. The system checks course details against what you have already claimed, including against your other certifications, so a repeat is usually picked up at the point of upload.

Submitting documents

Upload each document against its own row on the renewal checklist. Accepted file types are PDF, JPG and PNG. A photograph taken on a phone is fine provided the text is legible and the course number and completion date are readable.

A row marked Pending review has been received and is queued for a staff member. Nothing further is needed from you while it shows that. Most documents are assessed automatically within a day or two. The ones that need a person take longer, particularly during renewal peaks. If a document is rejected, use Replace on the same row to upload a corrected version. The most common reasons for rejection are an unreadable scan, the wrong period, or a missing completion date or course number.

Go to your renewal application.

Disagreeing with a decision

If a continuing education submission is refused and you believe the decision is wrong, the route is a formal appeal rather than a call to the office. Appeals are considered by the Certification Management Committee at its monthly meeting. The form and the timelines are on the appeals page [confirm appeals page link].
